A Little History...
The historic train depot in Ponchatoula was originally built in 1854. It was rebuilt after being burned during the Civil War. The present depot was erected in 1895 and remodeled in 1920. It became the Ponchatoula Country Market on July 5, 1973.
This was the culmination of a community effort. The inspired townspeople restored the old abandoned building as a place where area artists and craftsmen would be able to exhibit, demonstrate, and sell their work.
Today local craftsmen offer quality items such as: quilling, florals, ceramics, wood crafted items, painted wood, photography, painted and sewn fashions, popular Country and Victorian decorations, stained glass, handmade jewelry, dolls, baby items, unique gifts and souvenir items.
Many old and new items are available for the collector. Items include jewelry, paper, glass, ceramic, coins, metal and cloth.
In foods, we proudly market jellies and jams (including the exotic) and a variety of sweets, some sugar free.
